Performing has played a leading role throughout the life of Sharifa Smith and it’s continuing to play it’s part by being a professional performer up to date.
At a very young age Sharifa started attending dance classes at the Lucia Marthas Institute for Performing Arts (Amsterdam). Under the wings of this academy and mentor Lucia Marthas she quickly enrolled into the high-level training program for children. She appeared live and on television from the age of three on shows such as; De Mini-Playbackshow (The Netherlands/Germany), Rad van Fortuin, Telekids, Pittig Popconcert, Solo voor een Kind, Kinderen voor Kinderen 20, Bananasplit, De Supriseshow, Top of the Pops and opened the Expo 2000 in Hannover together with The Scorpions.
For many years Sharifa appeared in the opening leader of the popular Dutch children’s TV show: Villa Achterwerk.
Sharifa continued training dance in various disciplines throughout her childhood and was also introduced to singing.
In 1998 she joined the child cast of the musical ‘De Tijd-Affaire’ written and produced for the 100th year anniversary of the RABO Bank.
In 2006 she won the Jan Pasveer Music Award for her vocal abilities.
After graduating high-school Sharifa continued her performing arts journey studying at the Lucia Marthas Institute for Performing Arts. During her study she completed internships at Dinnershow Novomundo (Wentink Events), André’s Nieuwe Revue (Stage Entertainment), Jiskefet – Heb je nog geneukt? Tour (Heineken Music Hall) , Jiskefet – Goeiesmorgens de Musical (Heineken Music Hall) & Symphonica in Rosso (Lionel Richie, Diana Ross).
Other credits include: Gouden Loekie, 3FM Awards, Million Dollar Wedding, Sponsor Loterij; De Grootste Bingo Ooit, De Musical Awards, Erica Yong Collective, Babette van Veen’s Vertrouwelijk & The Sugarhill Gang’s New Year’s performance on national television. She toured as a MC and wrote the lyrics for the show ‘4 Elements’ initiated by the Dutch government for environmental education.
Sharifa graduated from the Lucia Marthas Institute for Performing Arts in 2011 and landed her first professional job as a background singer, vocal coach and creative on the Kinderen voor Kinderen Songfestival tour, with whom she toured three consecutive years. She also went on to become a singing and dancing coach on their television show ‘De Juf en Meester Battle’ which aired in 2012.
2012 was also the year Sharifa returned to the musical theatre stage, originating the role of Lola and understudying the parts of Bambi and Twiggy, in the national tour of ‘Yab Yum – Het Circus van de Nacht’ (Stardust Circus International).
Followed up by her national tour Sharifa got assigned as a Lead Soloist singer with Aida Cruises and in 2013 she embarked on the Aida Sol to play a variety of 14 shows including her self-created solo program ‘Elegy for Love’. In 2016 she performed on board the Aida Mar.
She's worked with Belinda King Creative Productions on board Tallink Silja’s Silja Symphony (2015) and Holland America Line’s MS Zaandam and MS Maasdam (2017), travelling all around the globe whilst doing what she loves.
Sharifa has worked and continues to work as a freelance singer, dancer, actress, model and creative for clients all over the world. She's been a part of the Dutch equivalent of Deal or No Deal (Miljoenenjacht) for many years and appeared this year on BNN's Zuidas as Paola Baldelli.
Sharifa also actively creates and produces her own projects such as her 2018 solo-concert “Recollections” which included her most beloved songs and memories.
